Paul - Portfolios...

With a flare for art, Paul started showing signs of being artistic at 4 years old with pencil drawings that resembled the talents of a teenager. By junior school Paul was winning most competitions he entered against much older school pupils. By secondary school Paul's Drawings were representing the school in competitions from his start there, winning and being submitted to the local York Art Gallery for the regional competitions and still winning! Prizes such as being placed in the London Art Gallery were achieved at just 13 years old.

While at school Paul's hobby was Airbrush Art, doing many motorbike club petrol tanks and rival scooter club (mods) in the peak of the Mods 'n' Rockers era, with groups of both outside his house one would have thought trouble was on the menu but they were actually all friendly admiring the artwork Paul had produced, proving art is a powerful thing.

Paul says:

"I got into tattoos when i was 13 when i went to watch my brother get a tattoo from a back street tattooist in a local flat on our council estate".

"I was having more fun than all the other kids with their paper rounds and it was cool too!"

Paul served a 4 year City and Guilds apprenticeship and gained distinctions in all subjects and an Advanced Craft Certificate in Specialist skills.

Later Paul turned self employed signwriter with some very high class customers on the books such as doing the graphics on many Formula 1 racing car transport carriers for Michael Schumaker, Jackie Stewart Racing, Benneton racing Colours, Mc.Laren, Mercedez, Leigei', Williams Racing, Damen Hill, others names such as Safeways, Milk Marque, Sainsbury's, Asda, Tetleys, John Smith's, Ansell's, William Youngers, Taylor Walker, B & B, as well as Local businesses and Haulage Companies around York and Selby area. Air Brush Murals on complete Tractor units for local hauliers which entered and won countless trophies for 'best mural' throughout the UK.

As well as signwriting Paul ran a small computer shop for a few years in York, UK, manufacturing & refurbushing PC's for the general public and local small businesses where he gained most of his advanced computer knowledge (self taught). This allows the studio Kool Tattoo in Cyprus the benefit of cutting edge technology & computer graphic design which now play a major role in the studios operation and performance to this day.

Paul is now 45 years old and to summarize the studio benefits a vast background of experience and skill that has been gained from all the various diverse backgrounds from Paul's 30 years of professional life.

"Unlike all the other skills and experience i have gained from life's strange journey, above all Tattooing is the most a difficult and yet most fulfilling art form i have so far encountered and to this day I just keep on learning something new each day and i hope this continues as it keeps my imagination alive. Should the day come that you think that you know it all, and you think that you are the best that there is, then that is the day that you have ceased learning and will remain in a that place for the rest of your career!

There are too many money bandits in the industry who are there just to cash in on the trade with no respect for the art form, the artists or the damage they are doing to the trade and worst of all is that most of the time they are not tattooists themselves just shop owners exploiting the artists!

These bandits are so unknowledgeable that they work on the assumption that the longer a tattooist has been tattooing then the better they must be.....but we know thats total bull shit...we have met artists who have been tattooing 2 years and do it better than some that have been tattooing 20 years! Some of todays young tattooists are mind blowing in their ability and will blow many of the 'old timers' into oblivion.

Keep it up thats all i can say and please share the secrets of how your doing it!
